It’s the temple of home decor, an Ali Baba’s cavern full of amazing things, an eclectic mix of vintage, folk and design. In New York everyone goes to ABC Carpet&Home, to buy furniture, carpets, bedding&linens, jewelry, beauty products, curtains, or simply to have a fun time admiring all the above. ABC Home also hosts a Pain Quotidien restaurant as well as the delicious ABC Kitchen opened in March of this year by chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and a shop in shop by Tribeca based woman’s wear designer Gary Graham.
.
About half a decade ago, ABC Carpet&Home had a huge children’s department with the most amazing iron beds, giant stuffed animals, child-size planes and cars, toys, decor objects and an incredible number of children’s wear brands from all over the world. All the beautiful independent labels were on display. It was heaven.
.
Today, after a few moves in different parts of the store, the children’s department has settled down on the third floor. It’s not as big as it used to be, the selection of clothes is reduced to a few brands (mainly Tane Organics), but it is still an enchanting place to visit, with a good selection of wooden toys, little accessories and home decor.
.
On the bedding floor, don’t miss the wonderful sheets, throws, bathrobes by Society, the most desirable brand for home textiles from Italy.

A Contemporary Textiles Artist, Sara William focuses on dyslexia and the problems Sara has encountered both during her school life and beyond. The inspiration for her embroidered drawings comes from a school workbook completed by an eight year old dyslexic pupil and Sara’s visits to primary schools.
”I have focused on the red correction marks from my school days where I continually misspelt words and used these to influence the words and images of my work. By controlling the sewing machine as a drawing tool I have created pages from a book using handmade unbleached felt and itchy woollen blankets that, with my free machine embroidery, represent my childhood memories” explains Sara.

Olivia Streatfeild-James is a Printed Textile Designer and Printmaker. Her work reflects her love of nature and animals as well as her love for her home, Scotland. Part of her inspiration comes from looking at childhood drawings of imaginary and known landscapes. Her choice of fabrics is influenced by research into Interior Designers such as Timorous Beasties as well as the natural colours and texture of the Linens and wool. She also likes the work of Marrimekko, Missoni and Thomaspaul.

Lots of playful design as well as children’s related year-end projects at the New Designers show in London. Let’s hope the ideas of the young graduates will have an impact on the market.
And let’s wish some of their wonderful products will also be available to buy.

Our dream is to have a dog : a Weimaraner, a Pointer, a Labrador, a Comodorre…We like them big, which makes it difficult with our rather urban style – the poor creature wouldn’t be very happy in a flat. One day we might do the big jump to the countryside, so in the meantime we have adopted a new friend : a cardboard puppet by Garudio Studiage that we found at Sarah Supermarket in Selfridges. We love our little Pavlov and…no need to take him to the park. Your children keep asking for a little rabbit or a baby lion? No fight, Garudio has that too.
