A Loughborough Textiles Graduate

Olivia Streatfeild-James is a Printed Textile Designer and Printmaker. Her work reflects her love of nature and animals as well as her love for her home, Scotland. Part of her inspiration comes from looking at childhood drawings of imaginary and known landscapes. Her choice of fabrics is influenced by research into Interior Designers such as Timorous Beasties as well as the natural colours and texture of the Linens and wool. She also likes the work of Marrimekko, Missoni and Thomaspaul.

Pavlov, our new dog

Our dream is to have a dog : a Weimaraner, a Pointer, a Labrador, a Comodorre…We like them big, which makes it difficult with our rather urban style – the poor creature wouldn’t be very happy in a flat. One day we might do the big jump to the countryside, so in the meantime we have adopted a new friend : a cardboard puppet by Garudio Studiage that we found at Sarah Supermarket in Selfridges. We love our little Pavlov and…no need to take him to the park. Your children keep asking for a little rabbit or a baby lion? No fight, Garudio has that too.

Wish list of things found on the net

Make a wish list of 5 things found round the net!“. This question was sent to me last week by Santa Bindemane, author of Kids-Gazette. The bi-lingual (Latvian/English), Riga-based blog features all sorts of wonderful things including ”non-standard solutions for everyday life”. My selection included a fun green bean bag from Serendipity, yellow salt water sandals from  Sweet Williams (my girls favorites since our New York days) and a frog kite from Petit Pan. Getting the house ready…

Getting the house ready for Jasmine’s 7th birthday. Celebrating all day : fifteen girls,  fairy princess and face painter in the morning, five boys for a Star Wars screening and lego in the afternoon. Wish me luck…(and don’t ask about the sexist segmentation; Jamine’s choice!).

Fouta? What's a fouta?

A year ago I didn’t know what a fouta was. I just knew that I loved light bathroom towels like the honey comb ones of my Swiss grandmother, or the ones I used in chic hotels and hammam places in Morocco.  Today, I have a house full of them, and I use them in every occasion, as home or beach towels, sarong, bed throws, picnic blanket.  Foutas are absorbent, lightweight and wash brilliantly. The best provider I’ve found so far is www.febronie.com : excellent quality, great choice of colors, and foutas in children’s sizes. Fouta’s Folie…

Latvian polar bear

I had a total crush on this white bear, made in Latvia.
Handmade in 100% wool felted, it measures 45 cm (17″) and is the ideal decor  companion.

Available on Etsy – Thanks to e-glue for bringing it to my attention!
