Something in the work of Miguel Palma is reminiscent of boys toys and puts me in a playful mood.

Last I week I was walking on Redchurch Street when I met a fun little person. It’s been a while since I published kids in the streets, maybe because I was turned down too many times lately by parents who didn’t want their kids on internet (a decision that I respect).

Lou Rota was working as a TV producer on science and natural history documentaries and, in her spare time, she was customising vintage and salvaged objects, from plates to chairs, with her own distinctive modern take on the traditional art of decoupage. That’s how she started her business, now well established, sold at Liberty of London, notonthehighstreet.com, Caravan, Anthropologie (anthropologie.com and anthropologie.eu) and Fleux in Paris. Lou’s distinctive tableware can now also be purchased direct from her newly launched website www.lourota.com.

It’s been a decade since the first Pop-up Stores opened in Paris, London and Berlin. The clever concept has spread all over the world and flourished over the years, giving brands the occasion to meet new customers without huge investments and giving customers a chance to shop in a more interactive and fun way.
***
If you are in New York this month, visit the “Goat Milk Kidware Organic Pop-up Store“ (photo above), 524 Hudson Street (open till December 4, 10am-7pm).
***
If you are in Berlin, visit PlayLOVEPop, “the first traveling Pop-up boutique” featuring Atsuyo et Akiko, Esp no.1, Kicokids, Wovenplay, an exhibit by Anna Palma and much more. Until December 23, Rykestrasse 50, Prenzlauer Berg – Berlin.

Today we were sorting out the book shelves to give some books to younger friends, but we could not we could not let that one go. An absolute favourite.

I watched two movies from Pirouettte interviews recently and I really liked them : The boy with the stripes pyjamas (Thanks Jenny Dalton) and Last train home (Thanks Lisa Wong). Today it’s my turn to recommend a movie : The Tree (Julie Bertuccelli, 2010). I watched it last night and I woke up with the images stuck in my head. The little Morgana Davies is very inspiring and the tree’s magic reminds a bit of Tim Walker with its octopus shape and little colorful lights.
