Knitwear basics are good and a core staple to a winter wardrobe, but it’s also good to fall in love from time to time and invest in a statement piece, that will last through from child to child. Luckily oversized chunky textured statement knits make an eye-catching appearance in children’s knitwear for the AW17 season. During the selling season, we discovered a number of #CoupDeCoeur special pieces at the shows. Chunky, fringing, loops, travelling ribs, with such personality these covetable knitwear pieces demand their own names. So let’s introduce you to the 1981 Jumper, Sky Vest, Cecilia Coatigan and more…
1981 Jumper, Mabli
The 1981 Jumper has a great story with the inspiration for the design deriving from the designer’s favourite childhood picture from 1981. An eye-catching combination of retro and modern. It’s a very special jumper hand knitted in Wales, (and yes I would rather like one in my size). They have limited stock but will make to order. So if you have fallen in love like us I’d get in quick for Christmas. ‘Extrafine Merino’, sizes range from 3-5yrs, 6-8years
Sky Vest, Tuchinda
Super chunky Peruvian wool, hand knitted in Peru, gorgeous chunky fringe detailing on the shoulder sleeve. Oversizing to last, sizes range from 4-6yrs, 7-9yrs, 10-12yrs
$130, Shop Sky Vest here
Edie Sweater, Tuchinda
Super chunky Peruvian wool, hand knitted in Peru, the chunkiest of cable running down the back of each sleeve. Oversizing to last, sizes range from 4-6yrs, 7-9yrs, 10-12yrs
$140, Shop Edie here.
Cecilia, Velveteen
The Coatigan – what a great invention. As the name suggests a cross between a coat and an oversized cardigan. Cecilia is made from soft Alpaca wool flame yarn and has the Velveteen signature little speckle of gold running through the base yarn. It’s thick for warmth but not too heavy, oversized and so soft. Love at first sight. Comes in two colourways Blackberry/White and Lurex Alpaca. Size ranges, from 2 to 14 yrs.
$248, Shop Cecilia here
Waverly Sweater, Tuchinda
Super chunky Peruvian wool, hand knitted in Peru, the taupe pink version is a favourite. The oversizing on Tuchinda’s hand knit collection means these beautiful statement pieces are made to last. Sizing ranges from 4-6yrs, 7-9yrs, and 10-12yrs.

Extrafine merino wool again from Mali, two colour cable and rib stitch, boxy shape with raglan sleeves to turn up and show off the inside colour. Super gorgeous in navy and peanut! This one is machine washable on a wool cycle :-) Size ranges from 2-8yrs
