It was a dark rainy Sunday in New York for the 16th edition of Playtime New York but it didn’t hamper the vibrancy of the show. In fact Playtime registered a new attendance record of 2,114 professional visitors with the majority (45.3%) attending on the first day. As we stated in the Playtime Paris report, stand presentation is paramount for labels wishing to capture the attention of visitors, either that they know already or are on their wishlist. Certainly there was no missing Lulaland’s rich fabric wall and it was difficult to not be intrigued by the giant 4ft stuffed Gizmo assistant at Fresh Dinosaurs.
Our first Spring/Summer 18 #Pirouette12watch winner in the design category is London based Goodordering mini. We were introduced to Goodordering mini’s retro/modernist super paractical bag range and innovative multi lens magnetic snap on glasses at Dot to Dot, London. Jacqui Ma is the designer and founder of the label. In this winner’s interview feature we chat with Jacqui to discover more about the label, her inspiration and what makes good kid’s design in her view.
It’s no secret that we are big fans of the New York edition of Playtime. Playtime New York 15th edition was fun, friendly and colourful as was the greeting that met visitors at the entrance, with a fruity Haru stuck on design installation created by artist Aurelie Andres. Interestingly the Baltic states were well represented amongst the strong contingent of creative and sophisticated kid’s fashion and design on show. We take a look at some of the collections and products at the show.

Fast forward to present day and Maria has successfully put her unique creative stamp on the award by creating a wolf headpiece to be presented to the Pirouette One to Watch winners in fashion and design at Dot to dot London, Playtime Paris and Playtime New York. Let’s find out what Maria considers good kid’s design and what the inspiration was behind her creation.

Bonjour are our One to Watch winners for design at Playtime Paris AW17. It’s of no surprise this label has amassed a large social media following with the stylist, designer and founder Anne Millet’s inspiring and captivating style. The Petite chamber noire (the little dark room) collection for Aw17 makes reference to the cinematographic and photographic world, creating a contrasted but subtle atmosphere as a photographer might reveal colours on photographic prints in a dark room. Wonderful moss greens and warm nudes are backgrounds to beautiful hand-block printed vintage flowers. We fell in love with the home linen, mattresses, quilts and the exquisite green in this collection. Let’s find out more about Bonjour, it’s designer and founder and share a sneak peek of Petite chambre noire.
New York has had it’s fair share of snow the past few months which made for an interesting flight to Playtime New York but it was well worth the bumpy arrival. It was great to see many European brands in attendance at the Playtime New York show alongside the many American, South American and Canadian brands. As always it was great to have the opportunity to talk to the designers whilst seeing the new collections at first hand.
