Screen Capture exhibition:
Parent and Child interviews revisited.
January 26 – 28 2019
In a fast-paced ever-changing world it’s important to occasionally stop and reflect on things done, and experiences shared. Pirouette’s Parent & Child interviews provide a snapshot in time of both the parent and their child. For the new Pirouette Screen Capture exhibition at Playtime Paris we ask a group of past participants to revisit their original interviews. With the children now in their teens, and the parents a little older they consider some new questions and reflect on their original answers.
On arrival to the 23rd edition of Playtime it already felt super busy. It seems we keep seeing buyers and press arriving bright and early ready to go first thing on day 1 – maybe hoping to capitalise from fresh brains & fresh eyes. This was born out by the visitor figures, with Saturday hitting the top day, worth noting for brands. The show welcomed 7,654 professional visitors through the doors at Parc Floral and interestingly for the first time the international visitors outnumbered the french home crowd.
Pirouette has long been an admirer of the creativity and storytelling of designer Alejandra Salvatore of Severina kids. So it was a real thrill when Alejandra accepted the invitation to design the new season’s Pirouette One to Watch Award. Hand knitted and embroidered, the ‘Spyglass’ is an inspired design and exactly what we are looking for…we chat with Alejandra to find out more about her design process, production and what core elements were important to the award… We love it and so will you!
This New Year we will be on the lookout once again to discover the most exciting emerging labels in kid’s fashion and design for AW18/19. And, for the first time, we start our search in Italy at Pitti Bimbo with both Florence & myself in attendance for the launch of the awards. The search then moves on to London with Dot to Dot and finally out to the states for Playtime, New York.
For this season’s awards, we have collaborated with the brilliant designer Alejandra Salvatore of Severina kids to create an exclusive One to Watch “Spyglass”. The Spyglasses will be presented to the winners of both the design and the fashion awards at each of the shows. So follow what we are up to at the shows and look out for the best emerging talent in kids fashion & design.
Krethaus and Severina Kids present Fox – unlike the rest of his kind he likes to eat acorns and only drinks fresh rainwater collected drop by drop in his water canteen. He’s a carpenter by trade and he resides in the hand drawn woods. His world is off white with black detailing. On a daily bases Fox takes the lovely cable car spanning the length of the woods from North to South. But, Fox knows there’s a bigger world out side of the forest, he’s ready to travel the world on an open ticket (guided by Severina kids) with his suitcase bursting with acorns, stocked he’s ready to go. We like Fox and his attitude to life, let’s find out more.
The new children’s trade show Little Fashion Week Brussels, targeted to both professionals and final consumers, ending Sunday afternoon. Full report…
Alejandra lives in Madrid where she creates Severina kids, a collection of fun dolls and unique stuffed creatures. All the products are handmade in limited editions with quality materials. Personally, on top of a doll, I would love Alejandra to come and draw something in my house! I love her poetic illustrations. Severina Kids is available at www.severinakids.com, www.minouchet.com, www.finnsfinds.com and Bobo Kids in London.
