This Saturday Playtime Paris will open the doors to their 24th edition. This edition has a whopping 54o brands exhibiting, 100 of which are exhibiting for the first time so there will certainly be a lot to look at! Playtime also has a number of fantastic projects during the three days including our very own Screen Capture exhibition, this time exploring Modern beauty. Let’s have a quick look at what’s going on at the 24th edition of Playtime Paris
‘Live Movie’ was the theme for this the 86th edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo and boy did it live up to the billing, with big anniversaries, events, and catwalk shows making for this vibrant extravaganza of the kid’s fashion calendar. Pitti Bimbo now caters for some of the biggest names along with medium independents right down to fledgling first time labels. There is something for everyone at Pitti with the show drawing visitors, buyers and press from all over the world to the beautiful city of Firenze, Florence, Italy. Pirouette was there for two reasons, firstly to cover the show for our behind the scenes web doc with NYC based children’s fashion photographer Molly Magnuson; and secondly to launch the Pirouette One to Watch Awards accompanied by Pirouette founder Florence Rolando. The events were big, the catwalk production outstanding and the collections vibrant. This is how it went….
Knitwear basics are good and a core staple to a winter wardrobe, but it’s also good to fall in love from time to time and invest in a statement piece, that will last through from child to child. Luckily oversized chunky textured statement knits make an eye-catching appearance in children’s knitwear for the AW17 season. During the selling season, we discovered a number of #CoupDeCoeur special pieces at the shows. Chunky, fringing, loops, travelling ribs, with such personality these covetable knitwear pieces demand their own names. So let’s introduce you to the 1981 Jumper, Sky Vest, Cecilia Coatigan and more…
With each new collection, a new photography campaign is required to promote, capture and draw attention to the clothes. Producing a photography campaign that reflects the new collection is a process between designers, stylist and photographer. We enter into conversation with Velveteen founder Laura Egloff and her go to stylist Jessica Zindren to talk about their process in creating the imagery for a collection and gain some insight into how the AW17 Velveteen campaign developed into a fun, eclectic Wes Anderson inspired shoot.
Put the fact that Pitti Bimbo takes place in the beautiful city of Firenze Florence to one side and Pitti Bimbo 85 was pretty for so many more reasons other than it’s location. Pretty – the Pitti Blooms theme bright, bold and energetic. Pretty – Pero asked us to go pretty in pink for ss18 and Pretty – pretty conversations of support and collaborations within the kids fashion industry. So lets chat about some of the trends, showcase some favourite collections from the show and look at the stats.
Gabriel (4 years old) and Alessandra (6 years old) live with their parents in Hong Kong. Laura Egloff their mother is a fashion designer and the founder of children’s fashion label Velveteen. Alessandra and Gabriel have a close relationship and complement each other quite well. When one is tired or cranky, the other will try to make them feel better. They’re both very sensitive souls but in very different ways. They are 2 years apart but were born on the same day, exactly 12 hrs apart (4:07 am and 4:07 pm) which they believe makes them “twins”. Laura finds it interesting to see how strong their personalities have been ingrained in them since birth. In many ways they’re almost two sides of the same coin.
When you have two or more children you very rarely get to spend quality time with one of them by yourself. Life gets in the way, between juggling the eldest’s after school activities, the youngest’s social life, family life and work – it all gets very busy and I never seem to end up hanging out with one without the other. So I decided that I would leave the youngest with Dad and I’d take Lulu (my eldest) with me to Florence for Pitti Bimbo on our first ever Mother & bambino trip…
