Mothers are privileged. With the bounty of networks and resources out there (and I’m not talking about Mumsnet…), it must be a cinch to stumble upon good leads for just about anything that Mom might find relevant or inspirational. Dads have to look a little harder…

Over the years, I’ve only caught glimpses of material I might describe as inspirational. Mostly, I’ve come across comical takes on the hapless father figure, in Nick Hornby’s novels or Andrew Clover’s Dad Rules. What if you’re a Pirouette-minded parent looking for fatherly inspiration? It’s taken me longer than it should have to find Kindling Quarterly. KQ presents essays, interviews, editorials, art and photography, highlighting creative individuals whose work and life are inseparable from their role as parents. Which is as it should be! (see my last post on Parenting by Default vs Parenting by Design). In the latest issue of KQ you can read an interview with DJ Ayres, profiles of photographer Gabe Sullivan and creative director Nicolas Neubeck. Just the spark required for summer reading.
