There is something special about the light in Los Angeles that stays with you. There is also the architecture, the wide avenues, the car culture, the long tall palm trees, that you can’t forget. And all the images of the city seen through the films set there, that are part of the “imaginaire collectif” : The Big Lebowsky, Wassup Rockers, Chinatown, Dogtown and Z-Boys, The Runaways, Minnie and Moskowitz, What ever happened to Baby Jane, to name only a few (of a long great list). Descriptions from the excellent novels by John Fante (West of Rome, Ask the dust) also come to mind, to add another endearing layer. Ah, LA…a paradise for kids, 7 to 77. Would you live there?

If you visit Venice Beach, LA, don’t miss Axe, Gjelina and The Tasting Kitchen. For the food, and for the scene…
