I am not really a TV person. I rather let my children watch films on DVDs, because they can chose from a great selection and avoid the over stimulation of noisy commercials. My older son recently introduced the whole family to the cartoon Adventure Time and everyone now seems addicted to it, even my husband.
When Celina Jones emailed me to propose her list of favourite cartoons and I saw that Adventure Time was included, I said yes. Only after did I discover that a part from being a free lance journalist, Celina also collaborates with Cartoon Network.
So this is a bit of an unusual post for Pirouette, but probably one that young parents who don’t know much about cartoons will appreciate, as these are especially good ones to watch with the whole family.
1. Scooby Doo
Who doesn’t love Scooby Doo? It is one of the most popular television shows to ever grace our screens. The great thing about this program is that it stimulates the mind because you rush to discover who the bad person is before it is revealed on the show.
2. Tom and Jerry
Tom and Jerry is another popular cartoon show. There are also a huge range of Cartoon Network games available that are based on the program. You and your child will love watching Tom as he tries to catch Jerry, and fails miserably.
3. The Powerpuff Girls
This is a great selection if you are seeking a show to watch with your daughter. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup constantly save the day and the outcome is never a negative one. If your daughter has not watched The Powerpuff Girls before then she is definitely missing out.
4. Ben 10
Since Ben 10 came onto the scene it has literally soared in popularity and has now become one of the most popular cartoons on television. The show follows Ben as he is able to turn into different alien creatures. The series is still running today, so you can expect new shows rather than simply re-runs.
5. Dexter’s Laboratory
This show appeals to both boys and girls because it follows Dexter as he tries to cause mayhem for his sister DeeDee. However, he and his laboratory don’t seem to agree as the results usually end up being hilarious.
6. Ed, Edd and Eddy
If you are looking for lots of laughs then Ed, Edd and Eddy can definitely provide this. The concept of the show is unique; following the characters as they make various plots and schemes in order to purchase their favourite candy.
7. Batman
This list would not be complete without a superhero and who better than Batman? Batman needs little introduction and is a solid choice if you are looking for a cartoon with a great story-line.
8. Adventure Time
If you like the idea of a young boy and a dog fighting evil monsters and exploring dungeons then Adventure Time is right up your street. This is another cartoon that is still in production, thus fresh episodes are guaranteed.
9. Teen Titans
This show is another one based on the superhero concept. It fellows five teenagers as they fight all evils. Teen Titans is interesting, inspiring, and breeds a ‘you can do anything’ attitude.
10. Camp Lazlo
And finally, Camp Lazlo is a show providing fantastic comedy as Lazlo makes his stamp on what was a peaceful area. This is assured to provide you and your child with some laughs and giggles.
